The South Korean police have arrested a 14-year-old girl for allegedly purchasing methamphetamine using cryptocurrency. According to the Dong-a Ilbo, the girl had paid over $300 in crypto for 10 doses of the drug. The police found her “collapsed” in a stairwell of an apartment block in the Dongdaemun District of Central Seoul. The girl claimed that this was her first encounter with drugs, but the police are conducting medical tests to verify her claims. The police suspect that the girl may have found the ID of a Telegram-based drug dealer via an unnamed social media platform. In response, the South Korean police have launched a new cybercrime taskforce to investigate darkweb-based crime networks and crypto-related crimes. Earlier, the police had revealed that they had increased spending on blockchain analytics tools and crypto-specific training.
