South Korean police have created a new cybercrime taskforce to combat crypto scams. One of the main tasks of the taskforce will be to dismantle and fight cryptocurrency scams, which have been on the rise in South Korea. High-profile scams, such as the V Global crypto exchange and fake “crypto bank”, have left investors out of pocket to the tune of $181 million. The taskforce will have three subcommittees, one of which is dedicated to analysing crypto assets. The other subcommittees will deal with the dark web and distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks and other forms of cyber terrorism. The police have recruited professional investigators and experts from private-sector IT companies to join the taskforce.
